Northern Scandinavia stands out in Europe as one of the few remaining wilderness areas, largely inaccessible for much of the year except to the most resilient adventurers. However, during the summer, this remote region transforms, opening up its rivers, once frozen over, to abundant fishing opportunities. Northern Sweden, in particular, boasts some of Europe’s most exceptional fishing grounds, especially renowned for species like grayling, trout, and pike.

Tjuonajokk Lodge offers access to these pristine fishing grounds at excellent value and has gained recognition among avid anglers for its superb grayling fishery. Nestled amidst the untouched beauty of Swedish Lapland, Tjuonajokk Lodge sits alongside the River Kaitum, one of the last unspoiled rivers in Sweden. Here, anglers can pursue trophy-sized grayling, char, brown trout, and northern pike. What sets this location apart is the diversity of fish species and the opportunity for sight fishing under the right conditions.

While much of the fishing focuses on the River Kaitum, the surrounding area boasts numerous lakes teeming with fish. Boats are used to navigate and explore the river system efficiently, providing each species access to prime fishing spots. Throughout the week, the primary emphasis is targeting large grayling and trout. However, guided excursions tailored specifically for pike fishing are available. It’s worth noting that these guided pike fishing trips can accommodate a maximum of two guests per boat, with an additional cost of £285 per rod per day.

Part of the reason for the fishing remaining as good as it has is that the lodge can only be accessed by helicopter from Kiruna airport. With a good connection by air, the total travel time from Stockholm Arlanda international airport is only 2,5 hours. This means that although Tjuonajokk is remote, it is perfectly doable as a shorter trip.

Getting to Tjuonajokk

Despite being remote Tjuonajokk is not difficult to travel to. The helicopter for the lodge departs from Kiruna Airport in Northern Sweden. For the below weeks clients can fly to Gällivare Airport which is just one hour twenty minutes drive away from Kiruna.
