The Cuban season is well underway and so far has been very promising and we are delighted to see anglers now able to return to Cayo Largo. Many of the areas in Cuba have had very little pressure over the last year or so and for those that have gone, the fishing has been excellent. The country is open and the number of flight options is increasing daily. There are still a number of trips where people have sadly decided not to travel, so this is the ideal opportunity to take advantage of some last-minute deals.
Cayo Largo
On the south west coast in the Canarreos archipelago, Cayo Largo offers consistently good fly fishing with the highest number of grand slams anywhere in the Caribbean. Aside from the excellent bonefish and permit available There are tarpon ever present found primarily in the mangroves or reef ranging from 15 lbs to 30 lbs. Traditionally the migratory tarpon arrive from April to August and tarpon over 100 lbs have been landed. Winding through the flats and cays are deeper channels that provide perfect areas for tarpon to feed on the bountiful shoals of sardines but when the tides are right they move onto the flats providing great sport. It’s a wonderful mixed species fishery with longstanding experienced guides.
