The 2018 salmon season has a little over a month left to go in Norway and, much like the UK, it has suffered from low water and warm conditions from the start. Despite this the waters at Winsnes Lodge have had some superb weeks, with regular catches through June and early July including some beautiful fresh Atlantic salmon.
The last week or so conditions have slowed up but when it does rain and the level comes up and the temperature cools there is immediate response from the fish. One angler last week took advantage of one of these water rises and hooked into a monster salmon in Lillestom Pool but mid battle it broke his sink tip line!
We expect that any sustained rain over the last five weeks of the season will bring with it a strong run of fish of all sizes and some late season anglers may well time it perfectly. We are hoping that Alex’s week next week may have that fortune.
