Our partners in Mongolia have just finished their 29th season and are looking forward to their 30th anniversary in 2025. It’s a destination we would highly recommend – stunningly beautiful and one of few places in the world where you can catch a 50+inch trout on a dry fly. In fact, Mongolia is a country and a fishery that has become more appealing with each passing year. Yes, the country has changed, but, unlike so many places in the world, it has changed for the better. It is wonderful part of the world, both a step back in time but also a step forward into a very hopeful future for Mongolia and its taimen fishery.
As far as the 2024 season went, fishermen from around the world landed large fish every week amid autumn afternoons, golden hillsides of trees shedding their leaves, and jaw dropping explosions as taimen attacked mouse patterns scurrying across the water. While the cloudy days were more productive than the clear ones, all anglers caught good fish and the state of the Mongolian taimen fishery is very strong.
With each passing year, confidence grows that Mongolia’s fishery will continue to thrive. Between concentrated conservation efforts, and Mongolian’s innate deference to nature, Mongolia’s fisheries are in great shape and will continue to provide angers with a fishing trim to remember. As a result of confidence in the future, the operators have made significant improvements to the camps with lodge re-builds, Starlink, and plane access direct to the camps.
This video does a great job showing the two taimen camps. They are well equipped, comfortable, and staffed by a wonderfully hospitable team.
The camps are ideally situated to ensure ample fishing water and plenty of time on the water with opportunities for the fish of a lifetime. The experienced team will ensure time on the water is both fun and educational. Whether casting a mouse pattern to a taimen that has just ingested a squirrel or a lenok sipping mayflies hatching on a fall afternoon, Mongolia offers some of the best fishing in the world.
