A perfect day in Guatemala starts with clear blue skies, calm winds and calm seas. It doesn’t get any better though than a short cruise through the marina, boat up on a plane – and then we start fishing at five miles from the dock.
This is how it has been the last few days; the fishing last week was consistent at fifteen miles or so – which in itself is only a quick jaunt – but at only five miles, we are in sight of land….the volcanoes looming in the background.
Sometimes the currents just work in your favour – pulling huge quantities of bait towards the coast, quickly followed by the predators. Our groups these past few days have been raising 20-30 billfish each day only 15 minutes from the marina. They have also returned with plenty of meat for dinner- some large dorado up to 40lbs have been in the mix along with the odd tuna.
When we say it is a perfect day, that is almost as good as it gets!
The weather has been great with temperatures in the mid-eighties and calm seas – so it is a great time to escape the polar vortex and come down for some great fishing action.
