Wherwell Estate, River Test – Chalkstream Fly Fishing
Varied and Delightful Upper Test Fly Fishing
The Wherwell Estate is situated on the upper River Test, just upstream from the delightful village of Wherwell. It offers a wonderful variety of water with both the main river and several interesting carriers to explore as well as a fantastic little lake. The 3 miles of river and lake make it a wonderful venue for chalkstream fly fishing day rods, guided trip and larger group days too.
Small and Intimate Chalkstream Fly Fishing
The River Test on the Wherwell Estate extends for some three miles across open water meadows, it is divided into eight two-rod beats. The beats are typically comprised of smaller carrier streams with tree-lined pools and delightful gravel runs. The upper two beats are favoured by anglers who are looking for a larger river experience. The river has great populations of wild brown trout and grayling along with stocked trout.
The estate also features a wonderful small clear lake that is stocked with both rainbow and brown trout. It can be taken for groups of up to six anglers and is a great venue for teaching new anglers, or entertaining family groups and friends. The lake features a wonderful hut with gas cooker and electricity as well as a flushing loo.
For larger groups and corporate events it is possible to take the whole estate exclusively, combining both the eight river beats and small lake. This works best for groups of 10 to 20 anglers. These events are hosted by our excellent guide team and can be fully catered.
With demand for chalkstream grayling fly fishing ever growing, we invite you to try one of the finest winter sight fishing rivers available. Wherwell Estate on the River Test is perfectly suited for day rods, guided trips and group days for those ready to brave the cold. The season is only open 1st November to 28th February.
