AMBERGRIS CAY, EPICENTRE OF BELIZE’S “GRAND SLAM” TERRITORY
Although Ambergris Caye has a reputation for tarpon, there are good numbers of bonefish and permit in the vicinity. There are also four or five good wading flats for tailing bonefish. Permit are a regular target species and the larger permit tend to favour the deeper ocean flats. Schools of smaller fish frequent the lagoons of Frenchman’s and Hicks Cays. The mangroves and channels there are also hideouts for snook.
Resident “baby” tarpon are found year round. Migratory tarpon are typically seen June–September but the earliest arrivals have been known to arrive as early as late March.
Fishing is from traditional Belize pangas or imported Florida flats skiffs but wading is possible on the hard sand flats.
Offshore, there are endless opportunities both in the bluewater and along the reef for tuna, wahoo, grouper, snapper and barracuda.

ONCE THE HAUNT OF MAYAN TRADERS AND CARIBBEAN PIRATES
Belize is bordered by Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the south and west, and the Caribbean sea to the east. With 8,867 square miles (22,960 km²) of territory and a little over 400,000 people, the population density is the lowest in Central America and one of the lowest in the world.
A short 15 minute flight off the coast, Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize. In more recent years, coconuts and fishing have been replaced by tourism as the island’s key industry. San Pedro is the only town on an island that is 25 miles and just a little over a mile wide. San Pedro itself shows its mixed heritage with its wooden houses reflecting Mexican and Caribbean influences alongside English colonial buildings.
Victoria House is approximately two miles south of San Pedro and is set in mature, well manicured grounds. It has direct access to the beach and the bars and restaurants of San Pedro are a short drive away.
