Tongariro Lodge, New Zealand

Enjoy the best New Zealand Trout fishing

Situated in the middle of New Zealand’s North Island, Tongariro Lodge is perfectly placed to target many of the island’s great rainbow and brown trout rivers and lakes.

Exciting rainbow and brown trout Fishing

The Tongariro Lodge guides have access to over 40 rivers and three lakes, offering the most diverse range of rainbow and brown trout fly fishing opportunities in New Zealand.

The crystal clear waters make the fishing for large rainbow and brown trout very exciting as you watch each twitch of the fin and flick of the tail. The Taupo region is a year round fishery, famous for its salmon like trout runs in the autumn and winter months as the fish spawn in the river headwaters.

During the summer months the fish are drawn to the surface to feed on the big cicadas which often provide a bankside chorus as you stalk your quarry. The wild rainbow and brown trout have thrived in the Lake Taupo system and as a result many large trout over ten pounds are landed by lodge guests each year, with an overall average of over four pounds.

With access to a wide range of private water as well as knowing the best backcountry heli-fishing trips in the area you will constantly be amazed by the fishing on offer here.
