Rapids Camp Lodge, Alaska fly fishing

Fly fishing in Alaska for rainbow trout and Pacific salmon

Rapids Camp Lodge offers unparalleled fly fishing in the heart of the famed Bristol Bay watershed, home to enormous rainbow trout, five species of salmon, Arctic char, pike, and grayling. With access to over 50 different remote streams, Rapids Camp Lodge offers a special customized Alaska experience.  Easy to get to, just an 80-minute flight from Anchorage, it’s a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life.

A variety of productive rivers to fish

The Naknek River, immediately outside the lodge front door, is considered to be the best large wild rainbow trout river in Alaska.  It drains millions of gallons of freshwater out into the Bering Sea and is also one of of the largest migratory routes on the planet for Pacific salmon. The guides at Rapids Camp Lodge are deeply in-tune with the rhythms of the river and know where and when is best to fish it.

With two boats located in the heart of the braids on the Kvichak River and guides with years of experience fishing this complex system, anglers can be sure they’ll get right to the sweet spots, fishing each system at its peak location and time.

The Nushagak River is the granddaddy of all Alaska king salmon rivers and the lodge has three boats ready and waiting to take you to the hotspots. Getting there is simple, just a spectacular quick jump in the Otter.

The Ugashik and Becharof lakes drain thousands of square miles and produce some of the largest salmon runs in Alaska. Tributaries of both these lake systems hold huge char and guests regularly catch fish of over 30 inches. These monsters eat dry flies, mice, and streamers with reckless abandon. Rapids Camp Lodge’s location close to both lakes means guests are able to utilize the least fished areas of Bristol Bay.

On the fly-out trips guests can encounter rainbow trout, the five species of Pacific salmon, Arctic char, pike, and grayling (seasons vary). One of the more unique trips offered at Rapids Lodge Camp is the saltwater fishing for halibut.

When not on the water, anglers can relax in the comfortable and welcoming lodge which has great views over the river. Accommodation for up to 20 guests is provided in eight spacious en-suite double rooms and the two bedroom ‘House on the Hill’ which accommodates up to four.

The lounge, bar, and common area form the epicenter of social activity, where guests gather to enjoy a drink and talk about their fishing day. There is also a screened porch area attached to the great room.  Rapids Camp Lodge keeps a full-time masseuse on-site throughout the week.
