LUX* South Ari Atoll, Maldives

Superb resort with a wonderful array of activities  

There’s a huge mix of land and water-based activities with plenty to keep all ages happy. Scuba divers can explore the incredibly rich waters, with manta rays and whale sharks regularly spotted. There’s no house reef but there are daily snorkelling outings and some great sites close by. Adrenaline seekers can try kite surfing, jet skis or even hoverboarding. There’s plenty to keep younger children busy with a thriving kids club and a fabulous ice cream parlour. The spa offers an extensive range of treatments and there’s a gym, yoga pavilion and tennis courts for those wanting to keep active. The array of eight restaurants and five bars offers plenty to suit all tastes, from sophisticated dining to a lively music scene. There are even impromptu cinema screenings at the open-air Cinema Paradiso. The whole place has a village-like feel with various areas offering a different ambiance. It’s an easy stroll from one end of the island to the other but guests can hire bicycles or make use of the regular buggy shuttle service.

There is a tremendous range of accommodation, both overwater and on the beautiful white sandy beach. The thatched overwater villas are airy spaces with whitewashed walls and make for the ultimate in laid back living. Some come with infinity pools, and they all have expansive outside decks with steps leading straight into the ocean.
