Compton Chamberlayne, River Nadder – Chalkstream Fly Fishing

Beautiful Wiltshire Chalkstream Fly Fishing

Compton Chamberlayne is situated on the River Nadder, just west of the city of Salisbury. Whilst not a true chalkstream the delightful River Nadder makes up one of the main tributaries of the Hampshire Avon. It offers a wonderful variety of water with consistent fly hatches throughout the season including a prolific mayfly emergence. It is a wonderful venue for chalkstream fly fishing day rods, guided trips and larger group days too.

A River For The Whole Season

The Compton Chamberlayne estate on the River Nadder offers seven delightful beats winding through the stunning Wiltshire countryside. Each beat takes two anglers and is appointed with simple fishing shelters. The beats are varied with good features for fishing all through the trout season, from slows for big mayfly hatches to shallow riffles perfect for many of our summertime smaller olives.

The River Nadder is a good early season river with good hatches of large dark olives and grannom. The main event is always the mayfly which can be spectacularly good even after heavy rain and poor river visibility conditions. Later in the season the early morning and evening sedges give the best chance of good sport.

For larger groups and corporate events it is possible to take a number of continuous beats depending on the size of your group. These events are hosted by our excellent guide team and can be fully catered.

Easy Reach of London

Although slightly further than the River Test, Compton Chamberlayne on the River Nadder is in easy reach of London and many other main towns in the south of England. Whether you drive, fly or get the train it will not take long to reach the fishing.

For those looking for longer stays in the area, we can combine the Compton Chamberlayne with other fishing options in the area. There are numerous accommodation options suitable for all types of stay, from small B&Bs to full Country House Hotels.
