Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 20th to 27th February

What a week it has been on Cosmoledo Atoll! The conditions were absolutely perfect, making for an unforgettable fishing experience. We began the week with neap tides, their gentle, less dynamic movement. As the week progressed, however, the tides began to build and shift toward the powerful spring tides, presenting anglers with a thrilling variety of challenges and opportunities. The rhythm of the tides played a huge role in creating the ideal environment for chasing some truly incredible fish. The weather, couldn’t have been more perfect. The atoll was bathed in full sun throughout the week, with barely a breath of wind to disturb the calm and clarity of the waters. The conditions were absolutely made for flats fishing—calm seas, bright skies, and amazing visibility. It was one of those weeks where every cast felt like it might be the one that brings in a trophy catch.

As the tides shifted and the weather remained ideal, anglers found themselves landing some truly spectacular fish. It was a week of firsts and personal bests, with several anglers making unforgettable memories by landing their very first giant trevally (GT) on the fly! James, Gian & Aldo, Mark, Paul, Gustavo, and David all achieved what many anglers dream of—landing their first giant trevally on the flats of Cosmoledo. The feeling of hooking into one of these powerful fish for the first time is something special, and we couldn’t be more excited for each of you!

But the excitement didn’t stop there. We were fortunate to witness some truly epic catches throughout the week. Aldo, in particular, had an experience that will stay with him for a lifetime. While fishing on the southwest flat, Aldo managed to hook a monster—a 120cm giant trevally that took his fly boat-side before making a powerful run straight into the backing. The fight that followed was nothing short of exhilarating, as the fish tested Aldo’s skills, stamina, and patience. After an intense battle, Aldo successfully landed the fish, securing what can only be described as a truly special and once-in-a-lifetime catch. Congratulations, Aldo, on such an incredible achievement!

Meanwhile, Gustavo also had an unforgettable moment. While fishing on the western side of the atoll, Gustavo hooked his very first moustache triggerfish in the surf. This stunning 50cm fish was a beautiful addition to his fishing portfolio, and landing it in the surf made for a thrilling catch.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 13th to 20th February

Last week on Cosmoledo was a fantastic week of fishing, predominantly driven by the spring tides at the beginning of the week, gradually transitioning into neap tides as the days progressed. This change resulted in low tides moving later into the afternoon, offering perfect opportunities for productive GT fishing on the shallow flats.

The weather varied throughout the week, with several days featuring large cloud cover and occasional thunderstorms. Despite a few brief interruptions due to electrical storms, the conditions soon cleared, allowing us to get back to fishing. The rest of the week offered ideal weather, with clear skies and calm conditions that made for great fishing.

We were thrilled to see Frank, George, Thomas, Purdom, Paul, and Dave all land their first giant trevally on the fly—a truly exhilarating experience for any angler!

Matthew and Purdom had exceptional moments during the week, each managing to land a giant trevally over the 100cm mark, with Matthew catching a 100cm GT and Purdom landing a stunning 103cm specimen. What an incredible milestone for both of them!

Frank and George also added to their impressive catches with a beautiful moustache triggerfish each—one of the more elusive species on the atoll, making it an excellent addition to their bucket lists! Michael also had an extraordinary catch, landing a giant bonefish measuring an impressive 69cm in length and

36 cm in girth, which was roughly estimated at around 11lb.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 6th to 13th February

Last week on Cosmoledo was an incredible experience, largely defined by the full moon spring tides of February. As the week progressed, we saw the tides gradually taper off from the neaps and into the full moon springs, providing us with more water movement throughout the 6-hour tide periods. This steady rhythm of tides helped create ideal fishing conditions that we eagerly took advantage of.

Pamela, Brett, and Collin all had the opportunity to land their first giant trevally on the flats of Cosmoledo Atoll. The conditions were nothing short of breathtaking, and their successful catches marked a significant achievement on their fishing journeys. Congratulations to each of them for checking another amazing species off their bucket lists!

This week also brought some impressive triggerfish catches. Stephanhad a standout performance, landing three moustache triggerfish, one of which measured 52cm. He then moved on to catch a stunning yellow margin triggerfish, which came in at 54cm. Helmut also had a fantastic week, landing one moustache triggerfish (52cm) and two beautiful yellow margin triggerfish, with the largest measuring 53cm in fork length. Alan and Vadim also each managed to catch a moustache triggerfish, further adding to the impressive list of catches for the week.

In terms of big fish, this week was exceptional. Four giant trevally measuring over a meter were landed, showcasing the incredible fishing opportunities that Cosmoledo has to offer. Alan was the first to land a 102cm GT around the main channel of the atoll, a great catch to start the week. Stephan followed up with two separate metre-sized fish, the largest of which measured an impressive 117cm at the fork of the tail. Helmut also joined the big fish club early in the week, landing a 102cm GT on the first day. These catches were a testament to the quality of the fishing on Cosmoledo and to the anglers’ skill and determination.

Overall, it was a week of incredible fishing, with a perfect balance of trophy fish, new species, and a truly unforgettable experience.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 30th January to 6th February

This past week on Cosmoledo was largely based over the neap tides, coming off of a full moon spring tide into the first set of neaps for February. The transition from the previous week’s powerful springs into the quieter neaps created a dynamic fishing environment. In the early part of the week, there was substantial water movement still lingering from the previous spring tides, which often leads to exciting fishing conditions. The surge from these larger tides made surf walks possible during the first two days, providing an excellent opportunity to cast into the surf. This allowed anglers to catch some impressive fish, with a number of lovely Giant Trevally landed, alongside a few moustache triggerfish, adding an exciting variety to the catch.

We were joined by an enthusiastic group of anglers this week: Bob, Roger, Paule, Dan, Gunter, Anja, Oddin, and Jefferey. For many of them, this was their first experience with giant trevally fishing, and it was a memorable one. Each of them successfully hooked and landed their very first GT during their time on Cosmoledo, marking a significant achievement in their fishing journeys. Congratulations to each one of you for reaching this exciting milestone – you’ve earned it!

In addition to the impressive GT catches, we were treated to a special rarity. Elmer had the incredible fortune of landing a stunning Indian mirror fish, also known as the African pompano in other parts of the world. This is a rare and uncommon species to catch on the flats, and it’s always a thrill when these elusive fish are brought in. Great job, Elmer – that was a memorable catch for sure!

The adventure continued with even more personal achievements. Paule and Bob both landed their very first moustache triggerfish while out on a surf walk. These beautiful fish were a fantastic addition to their lists of catches and made the experience even more rewarding for both of them.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 23rd to 30th January

Last week on Cosmoledo, we had the privilege of experiencing the new moon spring tides of January, which brought some spectacular fishing conditions. As the week progressed, we transitioned from neap tides to the spring tides, creating a perfect window for anglers to head into the surf zone during the lower tides. This shift in tides opened up opportunities for targeting a range of sought-after species like triggerfish and the mighty giant trevally. It was one of those weeks when everything seemed to fall into place, allowing our guests to experience the magic of Cosmoledo at its finest.

The weather throughout the week was nothing short of perfect. With blue skies and calm winds, visibility on the flats was crystal clear, providing anglers with the ideal conditions to spot fish and make their cast. The wind remained light and manageable, making the casting and fishing experience all the more enjoyable. It’s not every day you get such a consistent and ideal weather window, so we certainly made the most of it.

Lance, Beth, and PJ had truly remarkable experiences this week, each landing their very first giant trevally on the fly rod. This is one of those rare milestones every angler dreams of, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Congratulations to Lance, Beth, and PJ for checking off such an impressive bucket-list species, and on top of that, doing so in one of the most stunning locations imaginable.

David also had a standout moment during his second trip to Cosmoledo Atoll. We all know that Cosmoledo is home to a wide variety of amazing species, but for David, his highlight of the week came when he landed a magnificent moustache triggerfish. This species is as challenging as it is beautiful, and to catch one on a fly is a true accomplishment. David’s excitement was contagious, and it was a pleasure to witness such a memorable moment.

Lance and Dain both added to the excitement by catching some stunning yellow margin triggerfish, with Lance landing a 45cm fish and Dain reeling in a 53cm specimen. But Dain wasn’t done there – he also caught two moustache triggerfish, rounding out an already impressive catch list. These two anglers put in the work and had a fantastic week of fishing.

Group host JT had his own special moment during the week. In the surf on the southwestern end of the atoll, he managed to land a 51cm moustache triggerfish. These fish are not only a challenge to find but also require skill and patience to catch, so JT’s catch was a testament to his experience and perseverance.

Chris and PJ also had great success on the flats, with both anglers managing to land multiple giant trevally throughout the week. Each of them secured two fish measuring a solid 90cm – a feat that’s no small achievement, considering the power and strength of these apex predators. These GTs were the perfect cherry on top of a week full of remarkable fishing experiences.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 16th to 23rd January

Our past week on Cosmoledo Atoll was an exciting one, revolving mostly around the neap tides, following the full moon spring tides. The first two days were marked by large water movements, which gradually slowed down as the week progressed. This shift in tides played a key role in the fishing conditions, offering both challenges and opportunities throughout the week.

The weather this week was fairly mild, with very little wind, conditions were calm and pleasant for most of the week, except for the last day when wind conditions spiked slightly. As for light conditions, the first two days, as well as the last two, were a bit hindered by partial cloud cover. This cloud cover and light winds kept things interesting, but didn’t dampen the spirits of our anglers who remained focussed and eager to fish. One of the highlights of the week was the incredible success of Garret & Kim, John & Nancy, Mark, and Charles—each of whom landed their very first giant trevally! There’s nothing quite like the rush of hooking and landing a GT for the first time.

Dennis had a particularly memorable start to his trip. On the very first day, he was fortunate enough to hook and land a beautiful yellow margin triggerfish, setting the tone for the rest of his week. He didn’t stop there, though—Dennis went on to land several impressive giant trevally, including a particularly noteworthy fish that measured 91cm.

Charles also had a remarkable week. Along with his first GT, he managed to land a stunning 47cm yellow margin triggerfish—his very first triggerfish. But the excitement didn’t stop there. Charles went on to catch the biggest bonefish he’s ever landed, which was an incredible way to wrap up his week. David, who has fished the outer islands of the Seychelles on several occasions, was no stranger to the thrill of chasing giant trevally. However, this week, he added a new achievement to his list with an incredible 101cm GT, the biggest of his trip. On top of that, he landed another nine giant trevally throughout the week, making for some epic fishing.

As the week came to a close, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the amazing group of anglers who joined us. The weather, the tides, and the fish all aligned to create a memorable week on Cosmoledo Atoll.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 9th to 16th January

This week on Cosmoledo brought together ten eager anglers, each presented with the rare and exciting opportunity to fish a spring tide at a prime time of year. Among the group were many first-time visitors to the Seychelles, and it was an absolute pleasure to share the experience with them. There’s something special about watching first timers reactions as they cast into these waters for the first time.

Robert, David, Mac and Darren were among the first to hook into their first GTs within the first few days. This was particularly impressive considering the weather conditions which they faced. Despite the challenges, they kept their spirits high and pushed through, reeling in some solid fish. Along with them, Rob, Mac, David W., Doug, and Scott each had their own successes, landing several bonefish. These fish are always a great addition to any angler’s day, as they consistently put up a good fight and provide some fantastic action. Being a spring tide week, we were also fortunate enough to have the chance to do some surf walks. These walks are always a thrilling experience, especially when you’re searching for tailing triggers or watching GTs surf the waves in pursuit of their prey. The tides were perfect for this, and those moments when the fish are right in front of you, riding the swell, are truly unforgettable. There’s something uniquely exciting about those surf walks, as they offer a fresh perspective and a chance to witness the raw beauty of the atoll from a different angle.

By the end of the week, we had landed an impressive 34 GTs and nine bonefish. In addition to those, we managed to tick off several other species from the list, including triggerfish and other reef dwellers, which added to the overall excitement and diversity of the fishing. Every day brought new challenges and new rewards, and it’s always a pleasure to see the anglers grow more and more confident as they tackle the waters of Cosmoledo.

Cosmoledo Atoll, fishing reports 2024/25 season – 2nd to 9th January

This past week on Cosmoledo Atoll was a memorable one, as it unfolded around the dynamics of the neap tides, following the strong tidal movements of the new moon phase the week before. The first part of the week saw large tidal swings that gave way to the calmer, more moderate waters characteristic of the neap tides, which offered some truly remarkable fishing opportunities. The tides remained gentle as the week progressed, creating ideal conditions for anglers looking to target a wide range of species.

The weather for the week was absolutely pristine, with nearly perfect conditions for fishing. The skies were clear, the waters were calm, and the winds were non-existent for most of the week. This made for exceptional fishing from the boat, as the still waters allowed anglers to work their flies with great precision. Unfortunately, on the last day of the week, the weather took a slight turn with a bit of wind and rain in the day. However, this brief change didn’t dampen the spirits of our anglers, who still had a fantastic time out on the water.
