Kendjam End of Season Report
We are very proud to have completed this particular season, which went down in lodge history as a “new beginning” for our lodge, clients, and the fishery. The water at Kendjam had been rested for almost a year, and it was immediately evident that the fishing would be excellent. The water has been exceptionally clear throughout the season, which has made for challenging but rewarding fishing.
The average of fish landed in the season was 12 fish per angler/day. On top of a high fish count for each week, we celebrated some striking records and caught new species captured in the river. We have landed 16 different species during this season.
In the first week alone, we took advantage of lower than usual water levels, and wet waded at the first possible opportunity. From the start, there was clean water and lots of fish. Mother Nature was quite generous with us this year and allowed us to see several jaguars, anteaters, ocelots, tapirs, turtles, and birds of varied species. The wildlife here proves that fishing is about so much more than catching a fish. Kendjam is a special place, not just because of its pristine and unexplored nature, but for who comes to the lodge. This season was no different than the others. We made new friends from all over the world and learned so much from each of them. On behalf of the whole Kendjam team, we would like to thank everyone who shared the Kendjam experience with us this year. It was truly unique.
On a separate note, we successfully implemented strict protocols with vaccinations and distancing. Our goal was to take care of our staff, customers, and one of the most important pillars of our project. It was amazing to accomplish this and keep the Kayapo people healthy and well.
