Blanda, Iceland, Aardvark McLeod

The Svartá offers an exclusive salmon and trout fishing experience and is known for its crystal-clear waters, fast-flowing currents, and diverse pools. It is ideal for floating lines, riffling hitches, and dry-fly fishing. The river’s highlight is its confluence with the turquoise Blanda, a productive hotspot where, in 2024, the largest salmon in Iceland—a 111cm (43-inch) female—was landed. Flowing through the untouched wilderness of the Northern Highlands, the area above Blöndulón reservoir includes six rivers and numerous creeks teeming with brown trout and Arctic char. The upper blanda and Svarta is a remote and wild landscape to fish, where both resident and migratory trout thrive. From slow-moving waters perfect for dry flies and nymphs to thrilling highland streams, this region offers a truly unique and world-class fishing adventure.
