Tariquia, Bolivia
Fly fishing on the mythical Tarija River
Tariquia is nestled in the heart of the Bolivia Yungas, a region of rugged, forest covered mountains and deep tropical valleys. It’s a perfect refuge for fishing and adventure enthusiasts, with the Tarija River providing anglers with an unforgettable experience to target the enormous mountain dorado that inhabit it.
Huge golden dorado in crystal clear waters
The Tarija River, fast flowing, transparent and with a lot of slopes and fast currents, is well known for its enormous mountain dorado. These fish have developed large fins and a strong musculature, adapted to a river with such high flow. Two programmes will be developed: the heli fishing programme will concentrate on the upper section of the river. Visiting anglers are transferred from the lodge by helicopter to the starting point for the day, where they will be met by an English speaking guide and top-quality NRS raft. Paired with another angler, fishermen will set off down the river, covering around six kilometres per day. The rafts allow access points impossible from the shore and also offer an advantage when pursuing large dorado escaping downstream. The professional guides are expert rowers and skilled in multiple fishing techniques. Over the course of six days, anglers will have access to almost 100km of remote fishing spots, providing a diverse and thrilling experience each day. The second part of the programme comprises jungle camps in the lower section, which will offer fishing accessed only on foot.
Amazing comfort in a beautiful lodge constructed from local materials
Groups of up to six anglers are accommodated in a comfortable lodge, each in a single room with en-suite bathroom. Every evening guests will enjoy delicious cuisine in a well appointed living and dining rom. Satellite WiFi and laundry services are available. There is also a fly shop with all the necessary accessories for a week’s fishing holiday.
Raw and natural environment
To access this wonderfully remote location, anglers will need to fly from Santa Cruz de la Sierra to Tarija airport. From here it is a two hour drive to the lodge.
