In 2025 we bring you a unique opportunity to fish the world-famous ION beats on Lake Thingvallavatn combined with salmon fishing on Laxa I Kjos in 17 – 20 June, all based from the comfort of the Laxa I Kjos Lodge.

The ION beats need little introduction and are renowned for producing some of the largest brown trout in the Northern hemisphere. Although these fish can be found on many different beats on Thingvallavatn they are particularly concentrated on the ION beats as there is an inflow from the Olfusvatnsá river bringing in warmer water that concentrates the small char which in turn are predated upon by the massive trout. In no way does that mean the fish only eat fry, as when conditions are right these fish will also feed on midge and nymphs. The fish here are large, 8 – 10lb is not uncommon and the largest in recent years was an incredible 27lb!

In combination with the ION beats, we have the whole of the Laxa I Kjos to play on. 17 – 20 June is just after the river has opened and when the bigger fish enter the river system. Fishing will be quality, not quantity, and as there will only be six rods fishing, fishermen will be able to cherry pick the lies. Beat four of Laxa I Kjos is no more than 20 minutes drive from the ION beats on Thingvallavatn, so anglers will be able to cast a fly in pools containing salmon before heading up to the lake to fish.

Accommodation will be at the comfortable Laxa I Kjos Lodge on a single room basis. Over the course of three days anglers will fish in rotation on the river and the ION beats ensuring they have the best of both worlds.

The cost is:

17 – 20 June: 6 rods – £4,500 per rod

Rods are based on single room, shared guide.

This offers exceptional value for money and an opportunity for some wonderfully varied fishing.
