Don Joaquin River Lodge
fishing for golden dorado in Argentina
Don Joaquin River Lodge sits on the shores of the Corriente River in the town of Esquina. From this comfortable base, anglers can target golden dorado on the delta formed by the meeting of the Paraná and Corriente Rivers. Alongside this prized quarry, fishermen will find pacu, pira pita and surbi.
Argentina’s most exciting game fish
For many years one of Argentina’s most exciting game fish was kept a secret in its heartland. Now, the golden dorado, or ‘river tiger’ as it is affectionately known, has been discovered and is a one-of-a-kind fly-fishing experience for anglers from all over the world.
The freshwater dorado is a hard fighting and acrobatic fish, known for its strong runs and relentless jumps. This complex and challenging fish can be found near confluences, on the edge of eddies, riffles, sharp bends in the current, and close to overhanging carpets of water hyacinth.
It can be fished in narrow runs, on skinny water, and large fish are hooked in a multitude of different locations. The Corriente and Paraná Rivers offer a superb environment to fish for golden dorado. Local guides are passionate about the fishing here and having grown up in Esquina, they have a deep love and knowledge of the rivers – you will be in good hands as you target these incredible fighting fish.
