Christmas Island offers adventurous anglers one of the finest saltwater flats fisheries in the world. This magical destination, is not just known for its world-class angling opportunities but also for its strikingly beautiful natural resources and happy, compassionate I-Kiribati people. If your angling adventure bucket list includes a visit to Kiritimati – and it certainly should – then Christmas Island Lodge is a great place to consider for a superb fly fishing holiday.
Here’s the 1st November 2024 fishing report from this great lodge.
One of the greatest strengths of Christmas Island is its consistency throughout the year. Whether you are travelling to the world’s largest coral atoll for the world-class bonefishing, challenging triggerfish, aggressive trevally or to enjoy opportunities at the multitude of species that make the island home, Christmas Island promises to exceed expectations.
This week our guests enjoyed a neap tide moon phase that offered consistent and productive angling in the famous Inner Lagoon, Backcountry Area and Korean Wreck on the south shore. Innumerable bonefish were landed and released, multiple triggerfish including yellow margin, titan and Picasso triggers came to hand and one talented angler landed a GT of epic proportions. What a week indeed!
From all reports, the fishing was off the charts and only equalled in quality by the comfortable lodgings and friendly staff who made lodge life wonderfully welcoming at the end of each angling day. And, during a particularly beautiful sunset viewed from the the thatched-roof beachside lounge, porpoises were seen breaching in the pinkish evening light. Once again the magic of Christmas Island Lodge was on vivid display for all guests to witness.
Looking forward to next week and a new moon, our incoming anglers are excited about the possibilities to come. Will anyone accomplish the triggerfish slam as one skilled angler did in the waning days of October? Or perhaps the trevally slam and the glory that comes with it?
