Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 10, October 20 to 27
This week on the Rio Marié saw an adventurous mix of American and British anglers, along with the celebrated fly angler, Katka Švagrová. Despite low water levels limiting the movement of our mothership, the anglers persisted, exploring the river’s secret spots and experiencing the full potential of the Rio Marié. Renowned for holding the world’s largest peacock bass, the Rio Marié continues to affirm itself as the pinnacle destination for trophy hunters in fly fishing. Every cast carries the promise of a record-breaking moment, as the river’s teeming waters offer an exclusive challenge to only the most passionate anglers.
Howard provided one of the highlights this week. Howard’s journey with the Rio Marié has been marked by persistence and passion. His first visit in 2021 was cut short by heavy rains, and in 2022, a positive COVID test at the airport halted his return. This week, however, Howard finally fulfilled his dream of landing a giant peacock bass. On his second day, under the guidance of his local expert, he made a flawless cast to a nest and hooked a massive 20lb fish. The battle was fierce, with the peacock bass putting Howard’s skill and patience to the test. But Howard remained calm, guiding the trophy into the net—a triumphant moment, four years in the making.
Katka’s success was also noteworthy. Returning to Rio Marié in 2024, Katka came prepared for a challenge with the largest peacock bass in the Amazon. On a promising afternoon, she spotted a significant fish movement in the shallows. Her expertly timed cast triggered an aggressive strike—a 22lb giant on the line. With precision, she brought it to the net, securing her place in Rio Marié’s 20lb club. But her success didn’t end there. Katka managed to land two more 20lb peacock bass, making her tally for the week three remarkable catches—an extraordinary feat on the Marié.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 9, October 13 to 20
As the sun rose over Rio Marié, so did the anticipation of the anglers, knowing they were in the presence of the world’s largest peacock bass. This is the epitome of the trophy-hunting experience, reserved for those who seek not just adventure, but the pinnacle of fly-fishing. Despite a slow start due to low water levels and super warm temps, anglers quickly adapted, finding their rhythm and pushing their limits against the river’s giants.
The exclusivity of the Rio Marié experience is defined not only by its remote beauty but also by the unparalleled battles it offers—where 4 broken fly lines and 5 snapped 60lb leaders are all part of earning that coveted photo with a monster temensis. Anglers persisted, undeterred, and were rewarded with unforgettable catches that left a lasting mark.
We enjoyed mostly sunny days this week with water levels continuing to drop. While this created challenges for the mothership’s navigation, it also meant that prime spots for hunting trophy peacock bass were exposed, setting the stage for an action-packed week.
Highlights this week included Ryan, a first-time fly angler, discovering both the challenges and rewards of Rio Marié’s waters. Despite never having picked up a fly rod before, he quickly adapted, with the guidance of skilled local guides. His perseverance paid off when he hooked an impressive 18lb peacock bass—a feat that would be the highlight of any angler’s trip. But the excitement didn’t end there. In a quiet lagoon, a colossal surface strike on his popper reverberated through the water, signalling one of the largest explosions seen on the Marié. Staying calm, Ryan and his guide carefully played the fish, eventually landing a 91cm (2.98ft) and 24lbs monster peacock bass, setting the bar high for future weeks.
As we look to the coming weeks, the low water levels should continue to reveal some of the most promising spots for targeting the river’s biggest peacock bass. The excitement is palpable, with anglers already anticipating more thrilling catches as the season progresses.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 7, September 30 to October 6
We welcomed a diverse crew this week, with anglers coming in from all corners of the globe. As soon as the first line hit the water, it was game on. The camaraderie was electric—each night, stories flowed as fast as the river, recounting the battles won, the ones that got away, and everything in between. With our expert guides leading the charge, everyone got in on the action. Big fish, bigger fights, and memories that will last a lifetime. By the end of the week, the anglers left with smiles, sore arms, and a few new stories to share back home.
Among highlights this week was Michael, who first came to the Amazon in 1990. His one goal then was to land a peacock bass on the fly. It didn’t happen. Thirty-four years later, he’s back—and this time, he wasn’t leaving without a win. On his first try, a monster fish spit the hook—a gut punch, but not enough to stop him. A little while later, the guides spotted another giant, and this time, Michael made it count. After an intense fight, he held up his first-ever peacock bass, weighing in at over 20lb. But the story didn’t end there. On his final day, he hooked a second beast—another 20-pounder. Two trophy lifetime fish in one week after three decades of waiting. That’s what Rio Marié dreams are made of.
As we look ahead, the water keeps dropping, , and with it comes the promise of more big fish and bigger stories. As we push deeper into the season, the excitement is building—this river has plenty more to give.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 5, September 15 to 22
This week saw an eager group of British anglers make their debut on the fabled waters of the Rio Marié. We enjoyed mostly sunny days with temperatures ranging from 29 to 40°C. The water levels continued to drop steadily, providing ideal conditions for targeting the giants of Rio Marie. For these anglers, the experience was as much about discovery as it was about fishing. As they quickly learned, the peacock bass of Rio Marié are not just fish—they are one of the most amazing fish with a fly rod, known for their raw power and explosive strikes. After the initial challenge of adapting to the aggressive nature of these jungle predators, the anglers soon began to find success.
A standout moment came from angler Per, who had a week to remember. After an afternoon spent battling a fierce 18lb peacock bass, Per hooked into his first 20lb beast—a rite of passage on the Rio Marié. What made this achievement extraordinary was what followed. Just moments after releasing his trophy fish, Per cast again and found himself in another intense battle. In an almost unbelievable stroke of luck, he landed another giant peacock bass, weighing over 20lbs. Two back-to-back trophies in one session—an unforgettable testament to the wild bounty of the Rio Marié.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 4, September 8 to 15
This week marked our second camping adventure of the season, where we ventured into the headwaters of the Turi River, the largest tributary of the Marié. Fishing in these untouched waters, anglers saw incredible results, landing multiple monster peacock bass. Those fishing from the mothership also enjoyed a productive week, reeling in some impressive catches. It was a remarkable week across the board with giant peacock bass in abundance. Among highlights this week was Jeff catching his monster peacock bass. For most anglers, catching a 20lb peacock bass is a dream. Jeff not only achieved this but went far beyond expectations. On the morning of his second day, he landed an 89cm giant, securing his first 20lb trophy. Later that same afternoon, he caught a stunning 90cm fish. On the final day, Jeff topped it all with a 91cm monster. What’s remarkable is that a fish of this size, which set a world record just three years ago, is now being caught regularly at Rio Marié. This proves the health and preservation of our river—the most pristine in the Amazon and the true river of giants.
Next was Ray who after landing a 20lb peacock bass in the previous week, extended his adventure and joined the Turi Headwaters Camping with his wife, Rachel. Battling giant fish demands persistence, and Ray faced some tough challenges in the first couple of days, hooking into large fish only to have them slip away. His luck changed dramatically one afternoon, as he reeled in what he thought was a log—until it surged with the power of a giant peacock bass. At that exact moment, Rodrigo, fishing nearby, was also battling a massive fish. After intense fights on both boats, they landed their fish simultaneously—a double of giants of 22 and 23lb, that will be hard to top.
As water levels continue to drop, Rio Marié is entering its prime season for trophy peacock bass. The coming weeks hold even more potential for exceptional catches, as anglers return to these pristine waters for more encounters with the legendary giants that define the true essence of fly fishing in the Amazon.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – Week 3, September 1 to September 8
Last week we had the pleasure of hosting a spirited group of anglers from the US and Mexico. Despite some tough conditions brought about by the dropping water levels, these dedicated anglers embraced the challenge and Rio Marié delivered its thrills. The falling river revealed more of the Marié’s hidden structures, forcing the fish into concentrated areas. While this made the larger peacock bass more elusive, it also tested the anglers’ skill and perseverance, proving once again that the river is not for the faint hearted.
One of the most captivating moments of the week came from Raymond, a retuning angler who was haunted by a close encounter during the 2023 season. Last year Ray lost a giant peacock bass when his 50lb fly line snapped, leaving him with an unforgettable take of the one that got away. Determined to even the score, Ray came back to Rio Marié this year with a mission. Early one morning, while working a sandbar, Ray spotted a massive wake moving toward his fly. He cast confidently, and within seconds, the fight was on. Drawing on lessons from his previous battle, Ray kept his cool and expertly worked the fish until it was safely netted—a stunning 20lb temensis. Ray’s victory was not just a personal triumph but a testament to the rewards awaiting those who dare to face the challenges of Rio Marié.
As the water continues to recede, the upcoming weeks promise even more exciting fishing opportunities. With lower levels pushing the fish into prime holding areas, the potential for landing trophy-sized peacock bass is only increasing. The anticipation among both our guides and anglers is palpable, as we gear up for what promises to be an unforgettable season ahead.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – week 2, August 25 to September 1
This week marked the launch of our first Headwaters camping expedition of the season, adding an element of exploration to our already extraordinary journey. While a group of determined anglers pushed into new territories, the rest remained aboard our mothership, unwavering in their quest for the legendary peacock bass.
Despite the initial rain cooling the waters and slowing the bite, the Rio Marié delivered its promise—a unique and exclusive destination for those pursuing the world’s largest trophy peacock bass. The river, known for its formidable specimens, once again proved why it is the pinnacle of the fly-fishing experience.
Highlights this week included Jack, who arrived with his father, catching a colossal 89cm peacock bass on his first morning. This dream catch, weighing 24lb, set the tone for his truly memorable week. In contrast, Jan’s journey was a testament to persistence and resilience. After five days of near misses and elusive giants, Jan, guided by Lucas, finally had his moment on the final day. As the giant fish struck, the excitement was so overwhelming that Jan found himself in the water while trying to net the beast. But success was sweet—he landed his dream giant peacock bass, a true testament to the rewards awaiting those who persist.

Rio Marié Fishing Report – week 1, August 18 to 25
The 10th season on the legendary Rio Marié kicked off this week with a group of 12 anglers from the USA. With low, well-rested waters our fishermen enjoyed a remarkable week. Each angler found themselves locked in battles with formidable peacock bass that these waters are famous for, walking away with more than just memories – they took home stories etched in the wild rhythms of the Amazon. As the river levels dropped so the opportunities for encountering some of the river’s most formidable inhabitants increased, offering a glimpse into the extraordinary potential of the Marié.
Among the week’s highlights were Casey’s moment: You know that feeling when you’re the last one standing, watching as everyone else nails their big catch? That was Casey for four days. While the rest of the group celebrated their victories, Casey was still chasing his. Then, on day five, things took a turn. Guided by Rafael, a man who knows these waters like the back of his hand, Casey set out with renewed determination.
Rafael spotted a promising nest, and Casey, following his lead, made the perfect cast. The line tightened, the rod bent, and the battle began. It wasn’t easy—throw in a pesky reel knot and you’ve got the makings of a true test of patience. But when that fish finally surfaced, it measured a stunning 89 cm! The biggest catch of the week, and a moment that made every hour of effort worth it. Well done, Casey.
