The 18th annual Fly Fishing Film Tour is back on the road in the UK in November 2024 with a top notch selection of short films sure to provide inspiration for 2025 and beyond. There will be films that take you into the science of the Costa Marlin Project, to the depths of the jungle for massive peacock bass, a steelhead story with characters as rare as the fish itself and many more.
This year, we are delighted to be one of the tour partners and will have a member of the Aardvark McLeod team at most of the screenings. Here’s just a flavour of what you can expect to see. We very much hope to see you at one of the venues (scroll down for ticket links).
Films for in the 2024 UK programme are:
Rods, rolls on the Soča – Swapping paddles for rods, this crew of kayakers attempt to learn how to put the hook in the right spot. Under the emerald rivers of Slovenia’s Soča River hides an endemic trout, creating both a classroom and playground for misadventure.
Visibility, a steelhead documentary – Steelhead guide, Lael Johnson, navigates Washington waters while unpacking the challenges faced throughout his youth and present day. And how these experiences affected, shaped and ultimately saved him.
Marlin fly project – This project which took place in southwestern Baja, Mexico in December 2022 stands as the ultimate culmination of community and conservation. Led by Costa, it brought together leading billfish scientists, conservation organisations and community partners to pursue their mission in tandem with local captains, guides and the San Carlos community.
What lies above – This tells the story of a unique change in feeding behaviour of permit along the Yucatan peninsula. The increase of Sargassum seaweed creates the perfect habitat for a crab that the permit around Xcalak in Mexico have learnt to hunt. Join Chase and Raul on the search for permit on the surface in this extraordinary town.
Rio de Gigantes – Peacock bass stand out as one of the most intriguing catches on a fly in the Amazon, and Rio Marie is an exceptional location. Follow Helmut Zanderer and his team on the hunt for a trophy fish as they venture deep into the Amazon jungle.
Only the salmon know – For the past 15 years, Fred Campbell has travelled relentlessly across eastern Canada to fly fish for Atlantic salmon. This year he ventured out on three rivers he had never fished on the trip of a lifetime where only the salmon know why they take the fly.
Transitions – the bow – This short film features Kate Wilson, her husband and friends, as the seek to make the most out of the spring shoulder season in search of large brown trout in between turns up at the local ski hill.
A line in the sand – the island of Andros is a pristine ecosystem, with the largest freshwater source in the Bahamas, massive mangrove shoreline, one of the world’s largest barrier reefs, and a legendary bonefish habitat.
