Argentina, TDF; Villa Maria Behety fishing report

Estancia Maria Behety

Another great week at La Villa de Maria Behety, this time we had the pleasure to welcome again Jean & Keith H. from the UK on their 10th visit to this lodge!

Jane & Mel H. from the USA visited us again. And it was the first time for Pat L. and Rod H. two funny chaps from the UK.

The weather was good, probably too good, the temperatures were mild being the maximum recorded 17° C (63° F). Some evenings and mornings the temperature dropped down to 4° C (39° F). The water temperature ranged between 16° C (60° F) and 6° C (43° F).

This week we experienced little wind and what we did have blew from the north-eastern quadrant, and a little west wind (the usual one) the last two evening sessions, quite strange for the Tierra del Fuego summer. This lack of wind was a perfect excuse to fish floating lines more than usual.

The fishing last week was good, but a bit inconsistent. We had some great sessions with lots of fish and others very slow. We think that the weather conditions may have contributed to these results.

Average fish landed was 8.74 lbs.

27 fish were over 15 pounds, nine of which were over 20 pounds.

Fishing techniques have remained much the same. We’re are still using slow sinking-tips to fast sink-tips, depending on the pool.

Flies such as TDF Prince, EMB Rubber Legs, Aurelia Prince and tube flies in different sizes have produced best during the day. In the evenings, leeches and streamers ruled as usual.

The two ladies of the party were top rods, Jean and Jane landed 26 fish! They did a great job!

Mel H. had the biggest fish of the week and season, 27 pounds, equalizing Bob M's. big fish of last week.

It was a week of ups and downs, but overall a very good week.
